Kontinent Media Attended The Chicago Meeting For Fair Russian Elections.
December 10, 2011, Chicago, IL, Kontinent Media attended the Chicago Meeting for Fair Russian Elections. The action was attended by up to 70 Chicagoans of Eastern European descent, braving the bitter cold weather, met on the corner of Monroe and Michigan to show their discontent and demand rerun of Russia’s recent parliamentary elections held on the December 4th. I had an opportunity to speak with a majority of those in attendance; many of whom traveled from the far Suburbs just to voice their concern with the polling irregularities taking place in Russia. Uniting under slogan: Fair elections in a free country! Freedom to political prisoners.
The vote was won by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's party, affording the party a smaller majority in the State Duma (lower house of parliament.) Meanwhile, Russia’s President Medvedev in his response to the United States criticism was quoted by the Interfax as saying "I was forced to tell [U.S.] President Barack Obama on the phone that the assessment of our elections by the U.S. is of no significance to us."
Perhaps, the rising by the masses world-wide might, eventually, prove to be of significance to Russia. However, with the upcoming Presidential election in Russia, it remains to be seen, what if any, significance the uprising by the masses will play on the election.
