«A Keen Eye» Designer Borris J. Powell Fashion Show
March 18, 2012, Chicago, IL, «A Keen Eye» Designer Borris J. Powell Fashion Show entitled «Without a Shadow of a Doubt» took the fashion world by storm with his highly anticipated Fall/Winter 2012 men’s and women’s collection at the River East Art Center. The inspiration for the collection is pure beauty and confidence as evident by every exquisitely tailored garment. Borris J. Powell an Alabama native — now calling Chicago home, is 2011 Oscar’s Designer Challenge winner.
The show opened with chic fashion from Lincoln Park’s newest boutique STRUT. The boutique is the first retailer to carry Borris Powell’s designs. Candace Jordan and NBC’s Marcus Riley were the evening’s hosts, and as the show transitioned to Borris Powell’s collection the models entered in a grandeur fashion in a red cabriolet Ferrari. Adding to the overall ambient atmosphere the show took place in a striking wide open space, with a lit waterfall illusion, and a platform runway. Powell showcased an array of bold reds, rustic brown tones, grey’s, as well as black and a hint of rustic yellow.
His designs seem to cater from conservative to more expressive individuals. He extends his lines into Ready-To-Wear piece, carryall handbags, sexy scarves, and as of recently men’s collection. His eye for fashion, passed down from his mother, ensures that every garment not only accentuates outer beauty and confidence of its beholder but also manages to bring out the inner essence. He pushes the «envelope» equally for both sexes with his colorful leather gowns, extra wide leather belts, ‘Black Swan’ inspired dress, spectacular red ruffle dress cinched with a bow, military inspired coat, and carryall handbags.
The guest of honor Chicago Bear Rashied Davis, wore a beautifully tailored grey suit, one of Borris’s first men’s line creations, as he spoke about his Rashied Davis Charities, which teaches students how to overcome obstacles to success through, inspiration, preparation and discipline.
